Another solar project expected to serve MGE electric customers is under construction in Fitchburg. The 6-megawatt (MW) Tyto Solar is being built north of Irish Lane between South Syene Road and County Highway MM. Like other Madison-area renewable energy projects, the Tyto Solar project will serve MGE as a distributed energy resource, or DER, which is a generating facility connected to MGE’s distribution system serving MGE electric customers. MGE is committed to growing locally generated clean energy in the communities we serve. Tyto Solar is expected to come online by the end of this year.
Construction continues on the second phase of the Badger Hollow Solar Farm. MGE will own 50 MW of the second phase when it’s complete. The Badger Hollow Solar Farm is located in southwestern Wisconsin in Iowa County, near the villages of Montfort and Cobb. The first 150-MW phase came online in November 2021. MGE is served by 50 MW from Badger Hollow I.
80% fewer carbon emissions by 2030
These projects, in addition to others in development, will help MGE to achieve industry-leading carbon reductions. By 2030, every MGE electric customer will have 80% fewer carbon emissions from their electricity use simply by being an MGE customer. MGE is working toward our goal of net-zero carbon electricity by investing in cost-effective, renewable energy.
