Electric vehicle (EV) drivers looking to get paid to drive can look no further – MGE and Lyft are offering a $500 bonus to EV owners who sign up to drive with the rideshare company. This partnership will help grow awareness of the benefits of EVs by giving passengers some education in electric transportation.
"This program is a unique opportunity for Madison-area residents to ride in an EV and experience what they have to offer," said Debbie Branson, MGE Manager of Electrification. "EVs offer convenience—for example, with EVs, there are no oil changes or trips to the gas station. They cost less to fuel and to maintain than gas-powered vehicles, and they are fun to drive."
Transportation accounts for 29% of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. The electrification of transportation is considered a key strategy for reducing carbon emissions.
MGE has a goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions at least 40% from 2005 levels by 2030 and is targeting net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Lyft is committed to effecting positive change for cities by offsetting carbon emissions from all rides. This partnership plays a role in advancing carbon reduction goals in our area by promoting new technologies and growing the use of EVs.
