MGE Offering More Places to Plug-In

Our network of public charging stations continues to grow.

MGE is making it easier for electric vehicle (EV) drivers to charge as the number of EVs hitting the road continues to grow. According to the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and the Institute for Electric Innovation (IEI), more than seven million plug-in EVs will be on U.S. roads by 2025. While most charging happens at home, customers also expect to be able to charge at public places.

A Chevy Bolt EV charging MGE continues to expand our public charging network, which is powered by 100% wind energy.  MGE's network of public charging stations has three DC Fast Chargers–with one more on the way. A new fast charger at Kelley's Market in Middleton became operational in July 2018. Another fast charger planned for the Home Depot on Verona Road will make it even easier for commuters to "fill up" throughout the Madison area. Fast chargers are for CHAdeMo and CCS-equipped vehicles like the Nissan Leaf® and Chevy Bolt. About 20 minutes of DC fast charging can provide 60-to-80 miles of range.

The new installations will bring MGE's extensive networkto 31 public charging stations. The network, powered by ChargePoint, was one of the first in the nation when it was introduced in 2009 and covers most of the Madison metro area. Even more charging stations are planned for the future.

Partnerships with local businesses that host charging stations help MGE expand opportunities for EV charging and advance our Energy 2030 objective of offering new technology options for a more sustainable energy future.
