Since more than 80% of EV charging occurs at home, drivers are looking for flexible home charging options. With Charge@Home, MGE installs and maintains Level 2 ChargePoint home chargers in participants' homes. There are no up-front costs for standard installation and participants pay a monthly fee of about $20 per month plus the cost of their electricity usage.
As the number of electric vehicles (EVs) hitting the road continues to grow, EV owners are looking for more options to 'fuel up.' MGE is making it easy for drivers to plug in by offering innovative programs.
On average, drivers pay about $1.20 per gallon to fill their tank with electricity. MGE's Shift & Save rate (also known as Time-of-Use) offers drivers nearly 40% savings on charging costs by shifting their EV charging to nights and weekends, when fewer people are using electricity. To maximize savings, participants should shift other household electricity use to evenings and weekends as well. Explore My EV, MGE's new online tool that compares EVs to gasoline models, can help you figure out the best electric rate for you.
Charge@Home participants are enrolled in a study to help MGE learn how to best manage the impact of EV charging on our distribution system. Sharing charging data with us helps prevent strain on our electric grid while moving us closer to our goal of providing our customers net-zero carbon electricity by 2050.
