Electric Car Buying Simplified

Our latest video offers four things to consider when exploring electric vehicle options.

Vehicles are near and dear to our hearts. We clean them, take them for regular checkups and sometimes name them. I have fond memories of a Monte Carlo named Chuck.

Buying a car is an emotional decision mixed with a lot of common sense. Most of us are looking for a vehicle that is fun to drive and fits our lifestyle. We consider cost, color, size and features.

If you're considering an electric vehicle (EV), think about how far you drive – work, weekends and summer vacations. There are plenty of options. You can choose a longer range all-electric model or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with a gasoline tank for backup.

And charging is easy. You can charge at home – no more trips to the gas station – and there are plenty of public charging stations around town.

Watch our latest video to hear two drivers talk about their EV buying experience—and learn what to consider when shopping for an EV. You can also check out Explore My EV – MGE’s new online tool for comparing EVs to gasoline models.  Explore My EV will  show you the cost to own an EV based on commute distances, available tax credits and maintenance costs, among other things. Plus it can help you figure out the best electric rate for your home and estimate fuel savings.
